Today I am 20 weeks and 1 day pregnant. It doesn't feel real even though I've seen the baby on the ultrasound, heard it's heart beating steadily (146, while it slept uncooperatively), and even begun to regularly feel it move around. It's the strangest point of finally looking 'pregnant', and not just as if I've been indulging in ice cream on the daily.
I haven't had any strange cravings, but I definitely want healthy food. Nothing too sweet, nothing too salty, just satisfying and nutritious. I want Haagen Das Vanilla ice cream, and green smoothies. My iron is high, my blood pressure is fine, and I feel normal right now. I like going to bed early, but I'm also up really early.
It's the first rainy Saturday we've had in a while. I've been up for a couple of hours. I've looked at all the things I like to peruse on the internet. I've made a cup of tea and brought my book out to the couch (Miriam Toews' The Flying Troutman).
In a couple of weeks I'll begin my new job as an E.A. with the Victoria School District, and hopefully not have to do too much child care on the side. Except for the boys at the games, because that isn't work to me.
Yesterday James peered in our living room window at 7:30 am to tell us that they were all going to school early for a pancake breakfast and that he was going to eat 'two wheat and dairy pancakes'. That kid! We both just love those three so much. They've been coming down to the backyard to play baseball in the afternoons. It is definitely some of my favourite times, cooking dinner with the door open, listening to James, Joe, and Will play baseball. Joe runs in to tell me when he hits it, and asks me to come and pitch for them. I love those days.
These kids. Now we have a new one to love, one of our very own, for keeps, forever. We are so excited. It feels so right, we've waited so long. This baby will join us on our 13th year together, and will go on adventures with us, and be an adventure also. Who knows what's in store. So far I know this baby sleeps all day and moves around morning and night. So, we'll see how long that lasts once it makes it's debut.
