We went on our first camping trip of the year this weekend. We drove up to Gabriola on Friday night after W. got home from work. He had packed most of the camping gear on Thursday while I ran almost the whole 10k course, in the rain and wind, I felt really hard core! So we caught the 8:20 ferry and went and set up the tent in just a little drizzle. We bought firewood and tea bags at the Co-op, and went back to make a fire. We had a drink, then went to bed and froze all night. But somehow I still felt rested in the morning. We were up pretty early ( we heard an owl, I think it was the same one, during the night ) we relaxed, got dressed, then went for a drive. We looked at our old place, got some baked goods and coffee at the store, then drove around the island for fun. We got to Silva Bay around 11, and W.'s parents came over on the noon ferry. We had lunch, and they launched the boats at 2. One had so much purple heart wood, it was gorgeous. W. went sailing with Ted and Gareth in Ted's boat. We watched for a while then went in to warm up. W.'s parents left around 5 and we drove back to the store to get burgers for dinner. We played some cards, ate dinner, and went to bed pretty early again.
In the morning we had everything packed up by about 9 am, and we went to the Co-op to find the ferry schedule. J. was there and we had a good chat. We decided to take the 10:05 ferry, and we rolled right on. We heard on the radio that an oil truck had crashed the evening before, and about 30 000 liters of fuel had gone into Goldstream. The malahat was closed and they didn't end up opening it until 4 pm on Sunday. We thought about taking the Brentwood Bay ferry, but decided to go the back way through Port Renfrew. It was an awesome drive. The weather was great. We listened to the Fleetwood Mac tape. haha, it was great. In Port Renfrew we stopped for just a minute, and we heard this town siren go off. We both thought "tsunami" so we evacuated! About 3 minutes up the road there was a line of traffic all stopped and people were milling about. We thought we'd gone all that way just to get stuck in other traffic. It was an accident, and the siren was calling the firefighters from Port Renfrew!
So we made it through, drove down to look at Sombrio, and were still home by 3. We did laundry, cleaned the car, and I focused on my interview questions. I was up early this morning, made oatmeal and tea, then prepped for a couple of hours for my interview. It went really well I think. I was about 20 minutes early, and there was another girl waiting who's interview was at 10. The girl who was having her interview when I arrived was from my class. At one point in the interview, in the hardest question, one of the women was taken aback at what I said, but I saved it! She teaches history I think, but I redeemed myself and they told me that my answer was actually really great! So I feel pretty good. Now here I am at home, the house is a disaster, and I really should be studying. Tomorrow I will get together with some girls from Math, then two exams, one shift, and my week is over. I will also be done at Camosun. How strange!
